I'm proud to be a member of the Labour Party - despite the recent bombardment of bad press and the pressure of the global financial crisis. I think that what has been achieved over the last 12 years of Labour government is worth fighting for and the next election is not a lost cause.
I haven't always been a Labour supporter, before joining the party I was a member of the Socialist Party - my opposition to the Iraq War having spurred me into joining what I saw at the time as part of a broader, anti-war movement. However I quickly became disillusioned with the far-left after realising that, apart from opposition to the invasion of Iraq, I had little in common with my 'comrades' in terms of political ideology.
Since joining the Labour Party I have been active within my own contituency party of Chichester, serving as Youth Officer and Media Officer, organising fund-raising events and attending conferences as a delegate. I've also been Chair of University of Portsmouth Labour Students and campaigned for the Portsmouth Labour Party - Portsmouth North being one of the crucial seats to hold of we are to win the next election.
